Six Degrees
is an original work written by St Brendan-Shaw College teachers,
Michael Allen and Lara Watchman for the 2009 college production.
The story centres on the lives of the band members of Six Degrees,
from the roots of their musical beginnings to the pinnacle of rock
success. Intertwined in this tale of contemporary music, relationships
and social interactions is the underlying core theme of six degrees
of separation. The show explores the elements of human nature
in response to success, both negative and positive and the lengths
to which some individuals will go for personal gain. It is a moral
tale, a life lesson work, but its core is a rock show with heart
and a very real message. |

Thursday’s
Child is Tin, born on a Thursday and, like the old nursery rhyme,
‘has far to go.’ A strange and lonely child who digs,
his wanderings take him underneath the earth into the subterranean
tunnels that he’s
pre-destined to roam.
Told by Tin’s
sister, Harper Flute, it is a story of a family’s struggle
on their desolate farm during the great depression. There is death,
crop failure, neighbourhood and family disputes. Tin is an ever
present but mystical essence in their lives. Harper watches with
a child’s clear eyes her family’s struggle to survive
on the hot and impoverished land. As life on the surface grows harsher,
her little brother escapes ever deeper into a dark, subterranean
world.
The play explores
the spirit of hard struggle with change, cruel misfortune and the
idea that life is a pre-determined fall from a great height. Thursday’s
Child is a poignant and intriguing story, ending in great hope.

A Mudlark
Theatre production
written by Stephanie Briarwood
directed by Carrie McLean
featuring Emma Hardy and Jane Johnson
Join Regi and Erica as they take the road trip of their lifetime.
Regina is a
talented photographer travelling the vast Australian continent taking
pictures of an array of roadside shrines for her art exhibition.
Her wayward and way-out sister Erica is along for the ride, bringing
along her puppet “friends”, outlandish taste in music
and buckets of attitude.
By delving into
the poignant stories of strangers on the edge of the road, the sisters
uncover secrets and rediscover the beauty within their own lives.
Cross is a magical
piece of theatre filled with surprises, heartbreak and joy - a truly
beautiful experience.

If you think you’ve heard it on the wireless, you’ve never heard it like this!
Fresh off the ship in their packed up Morris, after sell-out seasons in the U.K, and New Zealand, The Kransky Sisters are unloading their baggage and bringing to you, their hit show, "Heard It On The Wireless". Venturing far from the dusty curtained private world of their old family home in Esk, rural Queensland, Mourne, Eve, and their oddly reclusive, almost forgotten sibling, Dawn Kransky, bring you their darkly funny stories from across the countryside, and uniquely homespun versions of popular tunes heard on the old wireless. The combination of their strange behaviour, blinkered outlooks, superbly droll comic dialogue, and alluring downright hilarious brand of tune make for a night of sheer delight.

Helena
and the Journey of the Hello is a kid’s picture book tale
in a crossed line conversation with contemporary times. The old
world charm of the illustrated story is given a theatrical twist
as unexpected parts of the set and costumes open like pages in a
book.
The audience
sit inside the fantasy world of Helena Bugosi. And what a world
this is! Helena’s mum is always on the phone – because
she lives in it. Helena’s father went into the forest and
befriended the foxes, before getting into a small boat and going
out to sea, leaving Helena to sing songs by the side of the road.
Children and
adults are amazed at what is possible with a mobile phone, a coat
and an old iron bed as they are taken on the Journey of the Hello.

makes us unique, gives us our particular identity? Tasdance presents
another fascinating evening with the work of two very different
artists: one indigenous and one from a European background. These
two works reflect each artist’s perception of their unique
Australian cultural identity.
Choreographer
Frances Rings, having earned a reputation as a leading indigenous
choreographer with her two award winning works Walkabout and Unaipon
for Bangarra, is now creating within a broader contemporary dance
context. Dancer and choreographer Anton worked with Australian Dance
Theatre and has forged a strong reputation for his highly energised
dance works which tap into Generation Y and popular culture.
